Abstract
Music Teachers’ Perspectives on the Problems Encountered in Music Lessons
This study aims to examine the problems encountered by music teachers during the teaching process from their professional perspectives. The study was conducted within a qualitative research approach using a case study design. The study group consisted of 20 music teachers working in different schools. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that music teachers particularly encounter problems related to inadequate physical and technical facilities, limited instructional materials, an intensive and inflexible curriculum, insufficient instructional time, differences in students’ interest and motivation toward music lessons, and the attitudes of school administrators and teachers from other subject areas. These problems were found to negatively affect the practical nature of music lessons, students’ participation, and teachers’ instructional processes. The findings suggest that improving the quality of music education requires strengthening physical and technical infrastructure, developing a more functional and flexible curriculum, reconsidering instructional time, and strengthening cooperation among school administrators and teachers from different subject areas.
